Save the date: Wed., Jan. 11, 7-8 pm, ILI, 17-25 New South St. (Old School Commons), Rm 113 , Northampton COME TO AN INFORMATIONAL MEETING to learn more about providing a home stay for an international student (18+) who'll be studying English full-time at the International Language Institute (ILI) in downtown Northampton. Stays of 1-6 months, year-round. Stipend paid for hosting. Home must be a short walk or bus-ride to downtown Hamp.


Meet Ombudsperson, Barry Brooks

Barry Brooks joined our staff as the Ombudsperson for the Amherst, Pelham and Regional Schools in October 2010. Prior to his role as Ombudsperson, Mr. Brooks was a Guidance Counselor at ARMS until his retirement. The ombudsman role was established to ensure that all members of the districts’community receive fair and equitable treatment in matters of concern or complaint. When established, formal procedures have failed to result in resolution, Mr.

Starlight Theatre Auditions - Seussical

Starlight’s Youth Theatre, the Valley’s only all youth theater group invites you to audition for: Seussical the musical. Please visit for audition appointments. Rehearsals begin on January 14th, 2012 at Maple Ridge Center, Sunderland. Seussical will be performed April 27-29, 2012 at South Hadley High School.

ARHS Girls Basketball Coach, Christal Murphy will be honored as a Massachusetts State Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year this Sunday.Christal Murphy of Amherst Regional will be one of the six coaches honored at the MBCA's annual banquet at Holy Cross in Worcester. Murphy earned the Division I honor after guiding her Hurricanes to the state finals behind a ferocious defense and solid team play.

Katherine Merseth, EdD, Director of Teacher Education, Harvard Graduate School of Education, will speak on issues related to the commitment of our country to provide access to a high quality education for all K-12 students including No Child Left Behind legislation and its reauthorization, Common Core Curriculum Standards, and charter schools at a program sponsored by the League of Women Voters Amherst.

Pulitzer Prize Winning Author Reads November 29th

Jennifer Egan's books include "Look at Me", "The Keep", and, most recently, "A Visit from the Goon Squad",, which won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The New York Review of Books described it as "A rich and unforgettable novel about decay and endurance, about individuals in a world as it changes around them…" and The New York Times as "A spiky, shape-shifting book… A display of Egan's extreme virtuosity." Egan was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2011, and is the recipient of many other awards and distinctions, including NEA and Guggenheim Fellowships. Free.

Hot Chocolate Run - Dec. 4th

8th Annual Hot Chocolate Run for Safe Passage. A 5k Run/2 mile Walk through Downtown Northampton on Sunday, December 4th. Walk starts at 9:30 am and Run starts at 10 am. Rain, Snow or Shine!
