9th Grade & New Students Orientation - Sept. 19th

Help us raise $ for teacher grants

Over the past 3 years the ARHS PGO has raised more than $26,000 through Stop & Shop’s A+ School Rewards program. All the funds raised go to the PGO Teacher Grant Program to make purchases that make ARHS a better place for our kids.


Parking Permit Deadline is Friday 9/23

Parking Permit applications & contracts are now available at the Deans Office, Room 160. The application submission deadline is Friday, September 23. Applications received after the deadline will be waitlisted.

Do you have ideas for improvements at ARHS?

Please consider being part of the ARHS School Council. The School Council is responsible for preparing the annual School Improvement Plan. Meetings are held two Mondays a month from 4-5:30 pm.

If you are interested in serving on the ARHS School Council please send your name, email address, and a 2-3 sentence statement of interest to: ARHS PGO PO Box 566 Amherst, MA 01004 or drop it off at the ARHS main office by Monday Sept 26, 2011.

Student Life & Study Skills Class offered in the Community

An 8 week course starting 10/1 from 8-10 AM at the Grace Episcopal Church in Amherst. Topics include study skill strategies such as learning fundamentals, note taking, keeping organized, effective reading & test prep. Students will review the principals of 'positive psychology' such as accepting personal responsibility, & self-motivation, empowerment & relationship skills. Tuition is $365 + cost of the text.


5% Day for FCCDC Farm to Institution Project

5% Day For the Franklin County Community Development Corp. To support extending the season ~ local harvest to schools Shop at Whole Foods Market, Hadley on Tuesday September 20 from 8 AM - 10 PM.

The FCCDC’s Western MA Food Processing Center gives local farmers a fair price for high quality fruits & vegetables freezes and cans them at our Greenfield facility & makes them affordable for schools & hospitals to serve year round.

Is your student looking for after school activities and ways of making friends. In the coming weeks there will be a ClubsFair at the high school where students can sign up for ARHS clubs. Check out the clubs list on the ARHS website

"ASK ME" Campaign a Success!

Thanks to the Administration, PGO and the School Climate Control Group, new students were warmly welcomed this week. Participating returning students wore "ASK ME" stickers to create a culture of help and support for the newcomers. One of the coordinators, Josh Whitaker reported "It was amazing, people were really excited and willing to help. Wherever you looked someone was wearing an ASK ME sticker, and lots of kids asked!"


African Scholars Program

In April 2012, ARHS will launch a new exchange program to West Africa.16 students and 4 chaperones will spend three weeks in Senegal and The Gambia, visiting historic, cultural and natural sites. Students will attend schools and participate in home stays in both countries.
