If your child needs help with homework they are not alone. Most students need extra help at some point. We asked the high school administration about the resources that currently exist for students seeking extra help and this is what they suggested.
Students:
1. Stop by and talk with your teacher after school. Teachers are at the school until 3 PM every day to provide after school help.
2. Monday through Thursday there are Study Centers in rooms 133 and 135 until 3:30 PM for homework help in math, science, english and social studies. There are late buses at 4:00 PM that students can take home.
3. Set up a study group with a group of students in your class. You can meet after school to work on homework and study for tests. Talk with your teacher if you need help setting up a study group.
4. If you are interested in getting an academic tutor talk with your guidance counselor to see if there is a peer tutor or college student who is available to work with you.
Parents:
1. Communicate with your child's teacher! Send your child's teacher an e-mail or leave a voice mail message and you will get a response within 48 hours from the teacher.
2. If your child is having issues in more than one class or is having issues understanding or "clicking" with a teacher contact their guidance counselor to set up a meeting to direct the student towards available resources for extra help.
Contact the Parent Center
This year one of our goals in the Parent Center is to find ways to encourage more students at ARHS to seek out the resources that are currently available for extra help. We are also interested in finding ways to improve the resources for extra help and encourage students and parents to contact us or come to one of our monthly meetings to discuss their ideas.
